Stillman basketball can do no wrong as the program. Here’s what they accomplished

In their first season in the HBCU Athletic Conference, the Stillman Tigers have swept the conference basketball regular-season championships.

As a result, Stillman claims an automatic berths in the NAIA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, marking the team’s first appearance since 2022.

The men wrapped up their regular season on Thursday, going on the road to claim their third straight victory in a 95-83 win over Fisk.

They finish with an overall record of 17-10, including a 14-4 record against HBCUAC competition. Under head coach John Teasley, the team has posted a winning record in seven of eight seasons, including five NAIA tournament appearances.

Stillman will now shift its focus to the HBCUAC championship tournament, which begins February 25. It will serve as the host institution and be the number one overall seed.

The HBCUAC regular season champs will open the tournament facing the winner of the opening-round contest between eight-seed Virgin Islands and nine-seed Wiley.

The Tigers are searching for their first conference tournament championship since winning one in their final season in the SIAC in 2016 (lost in the Southern States Athletic Conference championship game in 2021).

Meanwhile, Stillman’s women claimed their first regular season conference championship in school history, concluding their run with a 75-53 win over Fisk.

The Lady Tigers won their final 12 games of the year, posting a 24-4 overall record and a 17-1 conference record (each team set single-season school records).

As the number one seed in the conference tournament, the ladies will await the winner of the opening-round matchup of eight-seed Talladega and nine-seed Oakwood.
