Comedian and actor Roy Wood Jr. is back with his fourth comedy special, ‘Lonely Flowers,’ which will be available on Hulu on Friday, January 17th. Wood has a special gift of taking the realities of life and showing us how funny they are. And that is exactly what he is doing with this newest special. When asked about the ideation of ‘Lonely Flowers’ Wood shared,
I wanted to do a special that had no real politics in it. And make it more of an analysis of society and where we are as a people. We don’t want to admit this, man, but we lonely. We were disassociated. So I wanted jokes about that, that’s why I called it special ‘Lonely Flowers.’ We all beautiful, but we all alone.
In this exclusive interview with Black America Web, Wood shares how he believes the pandemic contributed to society spiraling into isolation hiding ultimately behind their phones. “It’s a very weird world. We are at home alone connecting with people. Come off of that. It’s not healthy in the long run.” Inadvertently, Wood is combating the isolation bringing fans together at his comedy shows and cracking jokes at how crazy we are these days.
