Former NFL MVP Cam Newton is looking to bring his “4th and 1” show to an HBCU in the near future after watinching Pat McAfee.
eThe Heisman Trophy-winner marveled at ESPN allowing Pat McAfee to shoot in a pub in Ireland during Week Zero of the college football season. And it sparked a bit of inspiration for him.
“This year I want to go to an HBCU and shoot it live,” Newton told his co-host on his most recent show. “Everybody in my family went to an HBCU to go besides me. I had the experience to go to (North Carolina) Central. I had the experience to go to Howard. Just to catch the experience. But what if we just went to shoot “4th and 1.”

Newton asked his audience which HBCU he should pull up at. He didn’t announce a location, but he did promise a good time where he showed up.
“We got’ bring the juice. And a little bit of gin too. I’m trying to tell ya — that’ll be a vibe. “
Cam Newton has established strong ties with HBCUs through his advocacy and family connections. Although Newton didn’t attend an HBCU himself, he has been a vocal supporter of these institutions, often encouraging young athletes to consider HBCUs as a viable path to success.
His younger brother, Caylin Newton, played quarterback at Howard University, further linking the Newton family to the HBCU community. Cam has highlighted the unique opportunities HBCUs offer, emphasizing that talent will be recognized regardless of the school. His efforts have contributed to the growing recognition and support for HBCUs in the broader sports landscape.
