GREENSBORO – After advancing to the Round of 16 at the 2024 Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) last season, the fun begins again for the North Carolina A&T women’s basketball program when they open the season in Dallas, Texas, on Monday, November 4 at Southern Methodist University (SMU). North Carolina A&T head women’s basketball coach Tarrell Robinson, who is entering his 13th season at the helm, announced the Aggies’ non-conference schedule on Thursday. It includes two ACC schools, including one of the newest members of the ACC, the SMU Mustangs. A&T also has three HBCU programs on the non-conference slate and a holiday tournament in Fort Myers, Fla., the hometown of incumbent starting center Chaniya Clark.
“Tradition is a work that comes to mind when I’m asked to talk about our non-conference schedule,” said Robinson. In my opinion, this is one of the best schedules we’ve had in some time. It’s challenging, and every game before conference play, we are playing for something. Whether it be bragging rights or respect, each game prepares us for a very exciting year.”
The Aggies will stay in Texas for a few days to open the season as they travel to Houston to face Rice University on Thursday, November 7, following their contest against the Mustangs. A&T’s home opener is next against a traditional ACC school, the University of North Carolina (UNC). Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12 at Corbett Sports Center.
Five days later, the Aggies will get a rematch against Mercer University on Sunday, November 17, after losing to the Bears in Corbett last season, 55-52. The first of three HBCU programs visiting Corbett during the non-conference will be Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) on Sunday, November 21 at 6 p.m.
Rival North Carolina Central University comes to the east side of Greensboro on Monday, November 25 at 6 p.m., and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) power Norfolk State will be in town on Sunday, December 15 at 2 p.m. Between A&T’s three HBCU games, the Liberty Flames will host the Aggies in Lynchburg, Va., on Saturday, December 7.
A&T heads to Fort Myers for two games in the FGCU Holiday Classic hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University. The Aggies face FGCU on Friday, December 20, at 4 p.m. before facing IU Indianapolis the next day at 1 p.m. A&T will close out non-conference play on New Year’s Eve with a 6 p.m. start against Division II Mount Olive from Corbett Sports Center. The Aggies know who their conference home and away opponents will be this season, but no dates and times have been set.
