HBCU Football Thursday: How to watch

As week one of the college football season rolls out there is a six pack of HBCU games being played on Thursday night. Central State is the lone DII matchup for the evening while the MEAC, SWAC and CAA all have games on deck. There’s also Colorado, led by former Jackson State coach Deion Sanders and his two stars, Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, both former Tigers as well. Here are all the details on how to watch tonight’s games, which are mostly available on ESPN+.

Central State visits Morehead St. for a 6pm EST kickoff, and that game is available here on ESPN+.

Howard the defending MEAC football champs and runner up in the HBCU national championship, travels to Rutgers for a 6pm EST kickoff. That game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.

North Carolina A&T makes the short trip to Winston-Salem to take on Wake Forest at 7pm EST. The game is available on ESPN+ and ACC Extra. HBCU Gameday will be at this game to cover the Aggies. Look for pre and post game content from Winston-Salem here at hbcugameday.com.

Trio of SWAC games

Jackson State has a score to settle with ULM, after a close loss three years ago. The Tigers will seek revenge at 7pm EST. That game is on ESPN+ as well.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff made a lot of news this week when head coach Alonzo Hampton honestly answered a question about opening the season against Arkansas. But he did promise to have his players on the field and ready to go for the 7:30pm EST kickoff. It will be a tough battle for the Golden Lions in this money game. But if an HBCU were to upset an SEC team tonight, turn over to ESPNU so you don’t miss it.

Alcorn State starts the Cedric Thomas era on the road in Birmingham on Thursday taking on UAB. That’s an 8pm EST kickoff and can be seen on ESPN+

Season two of the Deion Sanders era begins in Boulder, Colorado on Thursday night. The former Jackson State head football coach is looking to improve on last year’s 4-8 record. FCS powerhouse North Dakota State travels to take on Colorado at 8pm EST on ESPN. Former HBCU stars from JSU like Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter and Shilo Sanders are three of the big names for this year’s Colorado team.
