Former St. Augustine’s football coach Howard Feggins has a new HBCU job. See where

Howard Feggins has landed on his feet after his controversial firing from the now-suspended St. Augustine’s University football program.

Feggins was announced on Tuesday afternoon as the new running backs coach and special teams coordinator at Hampton, helping fill out first-year head coach Trent Boykin’s inaugural Pirate coaching staff.

“Coach Feggins has a wealth of experience as a successful coach on the professional, college, and high school levels,” Boykin said in a statement released by the university. “He is an excellent teacher and instructor, and Coach Feggins is a student of the game.”

Feggins, a former North Carolina defensive back who played in the NFL and CFL and had previous coaching experience as an assistant at several HBCUs, was hired to coach the Falcons in 2023. But he was fired after six games, as the university cited him for using ineligible players at one point during the season.

Feggins fought back against the accusations, filing a lawsuit against SAU, alleging intimidation and forced silence by the university after he complained of conditions that weren’t conducive to fielding a competitive team.

St. Augustine’s has suspended football for at least the 2024 season in hopes of keeping the university open and other athletic programs running.
