We’re not surprised by this news. According to Prime Video, Cross, starring Aldis Hodge, it is a hit.
According to Amazon, the Aldis Hodge-led series based on the James Patterson novels reached 40 million viewers in its first 20 days of streaming.
With that total, Cross is now the third-biggest season premiere of 2024 for Prime Video, behind Fallout Season 1 and The Rings of Power Season 2. Variety reports that the 20-day totals for those series were not revealed following their premieres but notes that Amazon did boast that “Fallout hit 65 million viewers in 16 days and that “The Rings of Power’s” second season crossed 40 million viewers in 11 days with that number eventually increasing to 55 million viewers.
Amazon also says that Cross became the third-biggest series launch and sixth-biggest season launch of all time, taking into account the 20-day viewership for all other titles.
Amazon Knew Cross Was A Hit Before It Premiered
Right now, the folks at Amazon knew they had a hit because the show earned a second season before the first season premiered on Prime Video.
Also, we would be crazy not to point out that Aldis Hodge’s finally being put front and center didn’t contribute to the series’ success.
In an exclusive interview with Hodge, we touched on him getting to put on display his leading man energy, which he echoed, everyone and their mama’s sentiments, “It’s about damn time.”
He continued, “I guess in terms of the “leading man energy,” I don’t see it so much from the perspective of entertainment. I see it from the perspective of entrepreneurship and business. I’m an executive producer on the show, so I got to lead the team. Ben Watkins, who is the showrunner and show creator, is a fantastic teacher. When we first met and talked about this job, I said, “All right, man, you are going to be my next teacher.” Because I like to surround myself with professors who can help me evolve and teach me how to be better, and Ben is absolutely that.”
Word of mouth could have also contributed to the show’s success, with many social media users praising it and recommending it to others.
“This show right here was CRAZY . From beginning to end . SEASON 2 ME NOWW !!” one person on X, formally Twitter, wrote.
We echo that person’s sentiments because Cross is a phenomenal binge. All episodes are available now on Prime Video.
