“We view this bid not only as a chance to host the tournaments but as an opportunity to strengthen and renew the bond between the CIAA and the Charlotte community,” Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority CEO Steve Bagwell told Axios.
Charlotte hosted the CIAA tournament from 2006 to 2020, when Baltimore, Maryland, swooped in with a bid that won the conference over. The CIAA’s contract with Baltimore runs through the 2026 tournament.

The letter of intent, filed on Jan. 27, reads, “Our city’s diverse and welcoming community is eager to support and celebrate the CIAA, ensuring that its presence in Charlotte is met with the respect and enthusiasm it deserves.”
