Allen athletic director to take job at Notre Dame

As Allen University enters its first athletic season officially since gaining NCAA status, it will now be searching for a new athletic director.

The university announced Thursday that Jasher Cox, the school’s athletics director, has stepped down. Cox is accepting a position as a regional director for Notre Dame, he told HBCU Sports on Thursday.

“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to President McNealey, our student-athletes, dedicated coaches, faculty, and staff for the honor of leading them as athletic director,” Cox said in a statement. “The President’s cabinet and everyone involved have been exceptional partners and teammates.”

Cox had served at Allen since 2021 after working in various athletic roles around the NCAA, including with the SWAC, Horizon League, and SEC.

He had also served as the Assistant Athletic Director for nearly seven years at Alabama State and was the senior associate athletic director for two years at Tuskegee.

This was Cox’s first athletic director role at an HBCU, previously holding the position at Lincoln Memorial for two years before coming to Allen.

In his tenure with the Yellow Jackets, Cox was responsible for the athletic program’s transition to the SIAC, the creation of their women’s wrestling team (second in HBCU history), and the hiring of three head coaches, including both the current men’s and women’s basketball coaches.

Cox was one of eight nominees for the Athletic Director of the Year Award at the Inaugural HBCU Sports Awards.
