DeSean Jackson announces first Delaware State recruiting class. See who was signed

The first recruiting class for new Delaware State football coach DeSean Jackson is taking shape. As of the publication of this story, the Hornets’ Instagram account had announced four new signees.

The first announced signee is defensive back Mason Williams of Duncanville High School in Duncanville, Texas. Williams played the rover position in high school and totaled 93 tackles and 6 1/2 tackles for loss last season.

Jackson also secured the commitment of a local kid in defensive end Chris Trumbull, from Red Lion Christian Academy. Trumbull led the Lions in sacks in 2024 as they advanced to the Delaware 2A State Semifinals.

Delaware State also inked size on both sides of the line – offensive lineman Jared Thomas-Payne from Plymouth Whitemarsh High School northwest of Philadelphia is 6’5, 300 lbs. and defensive tackle Carlos Velasquez of St. Frances Academy in Baltimore is 6’3, 260 lbs.

More signings and commitments are expected to be announced. Jackson was hired as Delaware State football coach in late December following the firing of Lee Hull, who compiled a 2-21 record in two seasons in Dover.

This will be Jackson’s first head coaching job. He previously served as offensive coordinator at Long Beach Polytechnic High School in California.
