The Mississippi Broadband Association has announced the launch of its inaugural laptop program. The pioneering initiative aimed at enhancing digital connectivity and educational opportunities in Coahoma County. This program, made possible through collaborations with multiple partners, seeks to empower students with the tools necessary for success in today’s digital landscape.
The pilot program is designed to provide large-screen laptops to 100 eligible participants currently enrolled in Career and Technical Education, Workforce, or Adult Education programs at Coahoma Community College. The initiative specifically targets individuals who meet certain eligibility criteria. Participants must be enrolled at CCC, have an income at or below 200% of the federal poverty line, and/or recipients of federal assistance programs.
Local department heads will oversee the selection process to ensure that students who can benefit most from this opportunity receive the laptops. This investment represents a $25,000 commitment to enhancing educational development and fostering digital equity in Coahoma County.
The provision of laptops will be complemented by technical assistance offered through Digital Literacy Coaches, managed and operated by the B.E.A.M office. This support ensures that students have access to devices and the knowledge and skills to utilize them effectively.
The launch of the laptop program will be celebrated during the Laptop Investment Ceremony at the Coahoma Community College Safe House.
