The Virginia State Trojans have announced that they have agreed to a five-year contract extension for head football coach Dr. Henry Frazier III.
Dr. Frazier was hired by Virginia State in 2022, returning to the CIAA after previously serving on the Bowie State coaching staff from 2017-2020.
In his three seasons as Virginia State’s head coach, Dr. Frazier has led the Trojans to a 21-10 overall record, including a 17-6 record in conference games.
The Trojans have improved their record in conference competition each year. This culminated in a 6-1 record this season, allowing them to advance to their first CIAA championship game since 2017.
This marks Dr. Frazier’s second CIAA championship appearance as a head coach, previously leading Bowie State to the conference title game in 2002.
Since he was hired, Virginia State has been one of four Division II HBCU football teams to finish with an overall record above .500 in each of the past three seasons (Albany State, Fort Valley State, and Virginia Union).
Dr. Frazier is two wins shy of 100 career wins, with his overall record sitting at 98-78.
