Hampton women’s hoops upset SEC school. Here’s how historic it was


The Hampton Pirates women’s basketball team just notched its biggest win in recent memory, knocking off Georgia 76-74 in overtime.

In addition to snapping a four-game losing streak, Hampton secured its first win against a Power Four program since beating Alabama in 2019.

Jasha Clinton led the charge for the Pirates, scoring a season-high 20 points on 57% shooting from the field and snatching a season-high five steals.

Amyah Reaves followed with 12 points and four assists, while Le’Asia Foreman stuffed the stat sheet with six points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Entering the fourth quarter, the Pirates trailed 62-48 having trailed for the entire game to that point. Chief among the problems for Hampton was a free throw disparity of 16-3 and allowing a shooting percentage of 51% through three quarters.

Hampton began making its run with 5:13 remaining in the game, going on an 11-0 run to trim the deficit to 1-point with 1:20 to go.

Trailing by three with 23 seconds left, the Pirates forced an offensive foul to get the ball back with a chance to tie.

After missing on the first three-point attempt, Hampton got the offensive rebound, getting out to Reaves who connecting on the game-tying three to send the game to overtime.

With 52 seconds to go in overtime, Georgia made a free throw to take a 74-72 lead.

Hampton once again tied the game on a Jenae Dublin layup, forced a miss on the other end, they got a go-ahead bucket from Tyra Kennedy with one second remaining to seal the win.
