We are sad to report that Tito Jackson, legendary musician and member of the Jackson musical dynasty, reportedly passed away at 70.
Longtime family friend and former manager Steve Manning confirmed the news to Entertainment Tonight that Jackson passed away on Sept. 15. An official cause of death has not been confirmed. However, Manning believes that Jackson suffered a heart attack while driving from New Mexico to Oklahoma.
Born Toriano Adaryll Jackson on October 15, 1953, Tito was the third of ten children born to Joe and Katherine Jackson in Gary, Indiana.
At the age of ten, Tito was caught playing his father’s guitar after breaking a string. After fixing the string, his father demanded that he play for him. He would ultimately buy Tito his own guitar, and soon after, he and his brothers ultimately formed the Jackson 5.
With their breakthrough on Motown Records, the Jackson 5 became the first group to debut with four consecutive #1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 with “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” “The Love You Save,” and “I’ll Be There.” The Jackson 5 (later renamed “The Jacksons”) eventually sold up to 150 million records worldwide.
Aside from his work with his brothers, Tito also had a solo career as a blues musician. His debut solo single, “Get It Baby,” peaked at #20 on the Billboard Adult R&B Chart. He released two solo albums, Tito Time (2016) and Under Your Spell (2021).
Before his passing, Tito continued to perform with the surviving Jackson brothers, having performed as recently as last month as part of their 2024 tour.
Jackson leaves behind his three sons Taj, Taryll, and TJ – who comprised the R&B/Pop group 3T – and nine grandchildren.
This is a developing story.
