Posing with her cuties baby bump in front of a NYC graffiti-covered storefront, Cardi’s newest IG post sparked speculation that the “WAP” rapper was subtly shading Nicki Minaj. With both rappers known for their long-standing beef, the internet wasted no time coming up with theories.
The rivalry between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj is nothing new. They have been throwing public jabs, confrontations, and a whole lot of drama over the past years, and it doesn’t seem to be coming to an end anytime soon. Their feud dates back to 2017 when rumors swirled that the two were throwing subliminal shots at each other through their music and public appearances. Things escalated quickly, with their infamous fight at the 2018 Harper’s Bazaar ICONS party solidifying their beef in HipHop history.
Despite both rappers taking a step back from releasing music in recently, it seems the tension between them never fully disappeared. Cardi’s latest maternity shoot—while meant to celebrate the upcoming arrival of her third child with Offset—became the latest battleground in their ongoing feud.
After fans speculated that the graffiti in the background of Cardi’s photos was a subtle dig at Nicki, Cardi B wasted no time shutting down the rumors. She fired back on Twitter, making it clear that her photo shoot was never intended as shade.
“First of all we literally picked a random street because paparazzi was hounding us everywhere,” Cardi tweeted. “This was supposed to be my original first picture, and we had to edit the photos in minutes because the shoot got leaked. Didn’t even have time to go over every detail because people were busy trying to expose my pregnancy as an ‘aha’ moment… Second, I’m ALWAYS with the shits but I’m not using MY MATERNITY shoot to be funny. Are you dumb??”
Cardi’s frustration didn’t stop there. In another tweet, she doubled down, saying, “A team?? B*tch, my makeup artist touched up the picture because we didn’t have time for all that, it says the date and time nobody was paying attention to the graffiti… second if I wanted to be petty I would’ve posted a lot of memes last week.. I KEEP TELLIN YALL TO LEAVE ME THE F*CK ALONE!! If I’m saying I’m not on that time DONT MAKE ME GET ON THAT TIME. Unrist yourself!!”
For those unfamiliar with the phrase “unrist yourself,” it’s Cardi’s way of telling people to untwist their minds and stop overanalyzing her actions.
Nicki Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, has a criminal history that has been the topic of conversation for a while. In 1995, Petty was convicted of attempted rape, which required him to register as a sex offender. He also spent time in prison for manslaughter after being involved in a fatal shooting in 2002. These past convictions have followed Petty into the spotlight, especially as he married one of the most prominent figures in the music industry.
